ANALYSIS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF TUMPENG AS AN IDENTITY IN JAVA ISLAND

Abstract

Tumpeng is one of the cultural heritage of the Javanese tribe which is still known today and is used as a dish that contains symbols or significance at every event. Tumpeng is generally served with rice in the shape of a purse inspired by the Mahameru Mountain which is believed by Hinduism as the abode of the gods and goddesses. Based on the cultural development, tumpeng began to produce a diversity of types and made tumpeng an identity on the island of Java. From the results of the analysis of the formulation of the problem solved by descriptive research, it can be concluded that tumpeng is still known and is part of the culture of the people on the island of Java, and its existence still has an impact on  dentity. Although in its development the philosophy contained began to be lost and forgotten by the people on the island of Java.
